RV Service Guides A little about this section. In 1988 and 1989 the Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA)developed standardization of service times the dealers can charge for service to your RV. This works much like the automotive industry whereas there are specified amounts of times to do specific repair jobs. Over the years the RV Industry has become more complex, and with the introduction of the Diesel Pusher, has increased the electronic systems. However today most dealers will follow the earlier set rates for service of the Recreational Vehicle. RV Manufacturers however have a standard of which they follow by as they pay for warranty service, However the dealership will have a different set of rates that are charged to the consumer. In 1994 I created a Flat Rate Manual for the ElDorado Motor Homes that was set up for dealers to use in repairing under warranty. In 1998 I created a Flat Rate Manual for Kit Manufacturing for working on Travel Trailers. I do not have these copies in my possession, as these were the property of those respected manufacturers. I do however have the standard from 1989 from the RVDA. I recommend that you use this guideline as you seek repairs for your RV. Keep in mind this is only a guideline for the service times. The RV Industry has labor rates that fluctuate throughout the country. Those rates can be a low as $45 per hour to as much as $120 per hour. Also as a note more complicated RV with complex electronics will not be listed in these guidelines. Check with your dealer service department if they have a standard rate for repairs like this. As this information is not public information and is a guideline for dealerships, dealers may quote or charge for repairs based on actual time spent on the repair even if the dealership does not have the qualified personnel to repair your RV. I advise seeking dealers that have been in business for many years or that have a employees that have years of experience.
