The Land Rover Family

After being a "Car Guy" and a Mercedes "nut", I traded my 1988 Mercedes 560SEL and a Blazer for my first Land Rover Discovery 2001. I have never had such a nice vehicle that has the luxury and comfort of a car, but the versatility of a truck/ SUV.

Following that, my wife drove my Discovery and fell in love with it also. So we traded her 1990 Mercedes 300SE, for her a 1995 Discovery, so far a great find local one owner. Following that, a finance company I have done business with received a repo on a 1988 Range Rover Classic. This thing was a mess, filthy dirty but it did run and drive, so guess what I brought it home.

After getting the 1988 home, (driving with no brakes), I started to check it out. Found the right brake rotor, was broken, (disc separated from the hub). Some of the windows worked, the electrical was a nightmare, some things worked and some things did not. It has a little dent in the rear, broken tail light dented bumper. It also had 3 different sized tires. After going through it my daughter Kristan decided she would like to drive it, and she sharing in the ownership is going to share on the expense of the repairs. This is the girl that like tinkering with older vehicles, (check out her most recent project VW Bus).

Now the Mid way point, the right brake is done, it is more safe to drive and shined up more.

Just before the addition of the new tires, which by the way is recommended to have 215/85 - 16 for some reason hard to find and expensive, so Goodyear recommended a 245/70 - 16. These seem to make the vehicle stand up nice. We elected to go with more of a street tire tread design rather than an all terrain tire.
